For 2000 to 2005 GM see “2000 to 2005 GM Full Size Models” for
installation instructions.
STEP 1. Place the X-TREME GATE "Slide-Out" Truck Bed Extender on your open tailgate with the housing’s tapered edge facing the front of the bed and the corrugated housing panel facing up. Center the X-TREME GATE between the sides of the tailgate (Fig. A). The X-TREME GATE "Slide-Out" Truck Bed Extender should be about ¼" from the rear edge of the tailgate.

Fig. A
STEP 2. Insert the long self tapping screws (Part # AA) in the end block holes. Screw them into the tailgate with a screw gun (drill) fitted with a Philips screw head; one at a time alternating end to end (Fig. B). Be careful as to keep the X-TREME GATE "Slide-Out" Truck Bed Extender from moving during this process.

Fig. B
STEP 3. Insert the short self tapping screws (Part # BB) in the front block holes starting with the center hole and working your way outward (Fig. C). After this step you may remove the housing; remove any metal shavings and remount it using the provided rubber washers (Part # DD) as gaskets for each mounting screw.

Fig. C
STEP 4. With the X-TREME GATE "Slide-Out" Truck Bed Extender attached and stowed, close the tailgate. Mark the side posts along the front edge of the housing with a pencil (at about 13 ¼” from the floor) (Fig. D).

Fig. D
STEP 5. Open the tailgate and slide the end panel to the rear and out of the housing. Raise the side panels to a vertical position and flip the end panel assembly up and forward. Locate the retainer clip template on the inner side of each side panel. Locate the appropriate template markings for your application (G = 2000 to 2005 GM (See “2000 to 2005 GM Full Size Models” for installation instructions), G1 = GM 1989 to 1999 Classic, D = Dodge, F = Ford, N = Nissan, T = Toyota). Make sure the appropriate 20mm mark is just forward of the side post mark from STEP 4 (if the retainer post is set too far to the rear, the tailgate will not close).
STEP 6. Drill the 4 small holes for your application using a ¼” drill bit. Drill the large hole using the supplied 20mm spade bit (Part # SB) (Fig. E). Remove the template as well as any loose plastic debris from the holes with a blade or knife (the loose debris may interfere with the smooth operation of the retainer clip).

Fig. E
STEP 7. Mount the retainer clip (Part # A1) on the inner side of the side panels (be careful as the retainer clip may come apart until it is installed) by aligning the mounting holes and inserting the 4 screws (Part # CC) from the outer side of the end panel (Fig. F).

Fig. F
STEP 8. Most models will use the provided retainer posts (Part # A2). (The stock GM striker post may be used on 2000 to 2005 models. This step includes trimming the end panels for a custom fit). See “2000 to 2005 GM Full Size Models” for installation instructions).
STEP 9. Center the retainer post on the side post with the retainer clip hole (about 13 1/4” from the floor) and the “tapered end” of the retainer post’s base plate is pointing to the front of the cargo bed. Insure that the “post” portion is just to the front of the side post mark from STEP 5 (Fig. G).

Fig. G
STEP 10.
Insert the 4 short self tapping screws (Part # BB) with
a screw gun (Drill) fitted with a Philips screw head (Fig. H). You may
remove the retainer posts, clean any metal shavings and reinstall it with the provided
rubber washers (Part # DD) as gaskets for each mounting screw.

Fig. H
STEP 11. Slide the side panel supports (Part # A3) on the trimmed edge of the side panel, drill the mounting holes, and insert the supplied mounting screws.
STEP 12. Repeat STEPS 6 – 11 for the other side.
