Finally!  A Truly Convenient Truck Bed Extender!
By Billy Carman - Life's Inventions Magazine

Jerald Summers – President/Founder of JES Innovations, Inc. and inventor of the   X-TREME GATE Slide-Out Truck Bed Extender asked me what the single largest issue with the most popular bed extenders on the market was.  I replied, “They’re in your way when you’re not using them.”  Then Jerald asked me to look inside his 2004 Silverado’s bed.  With the exception of the bed liner, the truck bed interior looked unmodified.  I scanned the bed, looking for the X-TREME GATE thinking; did he leave it at home?  Then I noticed a panel attached directly to the tailgate.  Upon further inspection I realized this was no ordinary panel.  In fact it was the entire stowed X-TREME GATE taking up only about 2” space from the interior length of the bed.  My intrigue grew...  How does it function?  Jerald lowered the tailgate and…  Well, I was a little confused.  Based on the pictures I seen, I expected the panel to unfold and create a “three sided box” however, I immediately noticed that the panel was fastened directly to the tailgate.  I asked “How does this pop up?”  Jerald replied, “It doesn’t!”  OK, now I’m really confused.  He said, “It slides out of its housing.”  Its housing?  What housing?   Well to my surprise, the panel I was puzzled about was the X-TREME GATE’s housing.  Now that makes sense, but still; how does it work?  I had the answer in about 8 seconds…

Jerald pulled the extending panels from the rear edge of the housing (similar to sliding out a computer keyboard tray), raised the side panels to a vertical position, flipped the entire unit up/forward, and attached the side panels to the inner walls of the truck bed’s support posts (using their specially designed retainer system).  And yes; all in about 8 seconds time.

The X-TREME GATE is designed to be out of your way until the very moment you are ready to deploy it.  There were no complicated latches or straps to release prior to deploying the extending panels.  Simply lower your tailgate, load your cargo (all of the way over the tailgate/X-TREME GATE housing), then deploy the extending panels.  Now that’s convenience!

I won’t have to worry about storing my extender in my already cluttered garage or leave it in the middle of my bed while not in use.  The X-TREME GATE will be there when I need it and out of the way when I don’t!  It’s solid panel design helps hold in smaller cargo and helps hide my valuable cargo from others.  And talk about tough.  The X-TREME GATE’s extending and housing panels are comprised of UV Treated and Fiber Reinforced Composite Material, which is light, flexible, and extremely strong.

What about loading heavy cargo over the X-TREME GATE?  The housing has a T6 Aluminum Alloy sub frame consisting of a “Front Block” supporting the weight of large objects such as lumber or motorcycle wheels.  There’s a floating frame which allows over 200 Lbs. to be placed across the middle to rear portion of the housing without interrupting the function of the extending panels.  Additional support is added while loading when the extending panels are in the stowed position so you may roll that 1,000 lb street cruiser over the housing without damaging the X-TREME GATE.

The X-TREME GATE takes about 45 minutes to install (average mechanical skills) with a drill gun and a phillips head bit.  All drill bits are included with the parts and hardware.  You may trim the excess side panel length with a jigsaw with relative ease as well (optional).  The X-TREME GATE lists for about $295.00.
